Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) regarding PDF subscriptions

What the heck is a PDF?
"PDF" stands for "Portable Document Format," a type of computer file dreamed up by the folks at Adobe Software years ago. The idea was to have a file that would display on any computer, regardless of operating system. We build the newspapers in this format so subscribers can read them at their own convenience, as they would the newspaper.
What you receive from us is exactly what goes to print. Nothing is left out.

OK. How do I read it?
Your computer probably already has the necessary software loaded. If it's a Mac, the usual program is called "Preview." On a PC, it's "Adobe Acrobat Reader." If you need any help, feel free to drop us a note or post in this section.

When do I get my newspaper?
As soon as we finish it each week. Seriously. We send it to the printing press, and then send it to you. The Ridgway Sun comes out on Wednesdays, and the Ouray County Plaindealer on Fridays.
So if you have a PDF subscription to the Sun, for example, we usually finish the paper late in the afternoon on Tuesdays. So, barring any last-minute tomfoolery, you'll get the paper in your email inbox by that evening.

Can I get a refund if I want to switch to PDF delivery from the print version?
No, but we'll credit your account the equivalent in "PDF weeks" from whatever you had left in your print subscription. Sound fair? Drop us a note at subscriptions@ouraynews.com and let us know if you want to switch.

I miss the smell of ink. Can I switch back?
You bet. We'll do the same kind of formulating in reverse. Let us know at subscriptions@ouraynews.com.

I want to get both. Is there a discount?
Afraid not. Much as we'd hope you'd choose to put a full buck in the machine if you take out two newspapers, taking two versions of the same paper is still taking two. That said, we do offer discounts if you choose to take both the Ridgway Sun and the Ouray County Plaindealer at the same time -- whatever whatever delivery method you choose. Check out those options at OurayNews.com.
